Having concluded that the weather would not hold up for another visit we aimed for home but got lost for long enough that the sun came back out and we were close enough to the abbay at Fontevraud to risk a visit.

We continued to take chances on random good weather and were again lucky at the Chateau Montreuil-Bellay which was a short drive from we were staying made considerably longer by a live-fire exercise conducted by the French military over a large part of the surrounding countryside.

The weather was sufficiently unpredictable to make it worth the risk of driving to Angers, about 1 hours away. There was a torrential downpour on the way which developed into sunshine and then, after we’d seen all that we wanted to, once again into heavy rain.
