I caved at the last minute and bought some fireworks having spent days telling myself it’s a waste of money. Scott gave up waiting at 22:30 and went to bed while Angus struggled on till midnight. There are people still letting off pretty spectacular displays well after 1:00. One of our rocket blocks fell over and shot a few horizontal rockets which brought a few seconds of tension but didn’t take anyone out, luckily.

Annual Eindhoven light show.

We returned to the Hermes office in Tainan where we got a great reception and the cook made fried rice (only for special guests).

We took the high speed train to Taichung for lunch with Grace and Vivien who were at university with Jessica.

Of course we went to the night market for food and fun.

Our first trip to the cinema with Angus was to see the last Harry Potter film in 3D.

The hotel also offers a cocktail lesson where you prepare 4 cocktails with the help of the bar staff. My contribution was to drink the end result. The lesson is a new addition to the hotels offerings so Jessica was the first participant.

As each room has a kitchen the hotel offers Thai cooking lessons where the hotel chef turns up with all the necessary ingredients for a few Thai dishes and shows you how to prepare them. Jessica made a three course lunch which we sampled and then she got her cooking certificate.
